Hello, fellow photographers. It’s been a bit quiet this week in terms of news, aside from Apple sharing multiple updates across both software and hardware. |
Among them is its first touchscreen laptop, which I have to admit didn’t excite me all that much. I’ve never been a fan of touchscreens on laptops. Even when I’ve used someone else’s touchscreen laptop, I’ve found myself sticking to the trackpad and keyboard. After all, as someone who edits photos, fingerprints and smudges on the screen are the bane of my existence. |
Still, I know not everyone shares my aversion. Thankfully, Apple also announced it is bringing back the glowing Apple logo, much to our own Mitchell Clark’s delight, so there’s something for him to celebrate, too. |

Would you use a touchscreen on a laptop for photo editing? |

I’ve seen lots of posts lately about people hacking their cameras or installing custom firmware to add features they want. In the video below, photographer Emily Lowrey tries a camera “hack” she found from another photographer on Reddit, adding a hue/saturation wheel to her PEN F so she can adjust colors in-camera. It could be a neat tool for those who want to spend less time editing. |

Also on the topic of camera settings, photographer Jana Brenner explains when you might choose a lower ISO and brighten the image in post rather than raise the ISO while shooting. |

Godox has updated its compact TT350 flash with a new hybrid hot shoe, so one version works with Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and OM System/Panasonic cameras, while Sony gets its own TT350 II S. It also adds a color screen and an LED modeling light, and it runs on two AA batteries. The TT350 II is available now for $85. |

The TT350 II wasn’t the only flash Godox released this week. Godox's new iM10 is its smallest flash yet, at 40 x 40 x 30mm (1.57 x 1.57 x 1.18") and 23 g (0.8 oz). It's a manual-only flash with four power levels and a universal single-contact hot shoe. The flash features a built-in battery that charges over USB-C and lasts about 350 flashes at full power. It's available to order for $25. |

SmallRig has FP2 accessories ready, too. Its $80 cage adds a wooden grip, a NATO rail, an Arca-Swiss base and an HDMI cable clamp. A lighter L-shaped plate keeps the wooden grip and Arca base for $50. Both are available for preorder now. |

It was a quieter week for firmware, with an update for Sony's A7R VI and two Nikkor Z lenses. |
Sony (A7R VI): Firmware 1.02 lets you use Preset Focus with lenses that don't have power zoom, though Sony says some aren't supported. It also fixes an issue where the monitor could turn on while the camera was off, one where manual focus could become unavailable in movie mode, and improves stability. Nikon (Nikkor Z 14-24mm F2.8 S): Firmware 1.10 makes manual focus adjustments depend on how far you turn the focus ring rather than how quickly, when the focus ring rotation range is set to an option other than non-linear. It also adds support for the camera's Switch focus/control ring roles setting. Nikon (Nikkor Z 24-70mm F2.8 S II): Firmware 1.10 makes the aperture more reliable and quieter.

Mitchell Clark was working on our review of the Canon R6 V and ran into an issue where the specific menu item he wanted to show wouldn’t output over HDMI. So, he had to get a bit creative in order to share that information. |
