Welcome to the 597th Digital Photography Review newsletter. It's unusual that we see major product announcements in the time between major trade shows, but that's what is happening this year, with both Fujifilm and Olympus slipping significant new cameras in between CES and CP+, which takes place next month in Japan. We've spent the past few days both building on our launch content around the 24MP Fujifilm X-Pro2, and writing about the all-new Olympus PEN-F. You can find links to all of this content below. Olympus adds retro-styled PEN-F to mirrorless lineup Olympus has brought new life – and a new face – to the famed film-era PEN series with the all-new digital PEN-F. The PEN-F is a 20MP rangefinder-style interchangeable lens camera that inherits a lot of features from the OM-D E-M5 II, including 5-axis image stabilization and a high resolution shooting mode. We've been using one for a few days, and we've prepared several pieces of content, including a detailed first impressions review. Click here to read our launch content on the Olympus PEN-F Digging into the Fujifilm X-Pro2: Studio analysis and full-production sample gallery added Our Fujifilm X-Pro2 First Impressions just got a significant update. With a production-ready camera in hand, we've been able to send it through our studio tests, make some judgments about image quality from its new 24MP X-Trans image sensor and put together a fresh sample gallery. DPReview was at the launch event in Tokyo where we made time to sit down with two senior Fujifilm executives - Mr. Toru Takahashi and Toshihisa Iida. As well as the new cameras, we also spoke about Fujifilm's long-term ambitions, which cameras sell best in which countries and Samsung's apparent exit from the camera market. Welcome to the 596th Digital Photography Review newsletter. We've only just passed half way through January and this year's launches have already begun. First out of the traps is Fujifilm, who've announced not only a range-topping interchangeable lens model but also a wide-angle large sensor compact for street shooters and a slight refresh of an older model, now at a lower price point. And that's before we mention the 100-400mm lens, a wireless TTL flashgun and some updated firmware for that older model. It's certainly not a bad way to start to 2016. And, given it's a Photokina year, I can't imagine these will be the last enthusiast-targeted goodies we'll see. Fujfilm launches the X-Pro2 It's amazing to think that it's four years since Fujifilm launched the first X-mount camera but easier to believe when you see how fleshed-out the system has become. The X-Pro2 is the direct descendent of that first X-mount model but despite the similarities in appearance, is a significant step forward for the whole system. We're already conducting studio testing with a production sample of the camera, but first we got some real-world photos and prepared this in-depth look at the camera: Click here to read our First Impressions Review of the Fujifilm X-Pro2 Hands on with the Fujifilm X70 If you're wondering why I'm writing this week's newsletter, it's because Barney has just got back from Japan, where he got to be one of the first independent reviewers to shoot with Fujifilm's X70. It's a 28mm equivalent compact with an APS-C sensor and X-series retro styling. It's also the first to go down the touchscreen route and seems geared towards street shooters in particular. Click here to see a hands-on view of the X70 Shooting with the Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 VR It's not all about Fujifilm, of course, we've also recently had the chance to shoot with Nikon's latest high-end standard zoom for full frame: the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8E ED VR. It's a stabilized update to one of the great workhorses of Nikon's lens range. So how did it perform in real-world use? Click here to see our Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 VR gallery and our thoughts on the lens Behind the Camera: Sue Bryce's contemporary portraiture The latest pro photographer to chat to DPReview is Sue Bryce. Describing herself as a contemporary fashion portrait photographer, Bryce has built up her business alongside developing her personal style. We sat down with her recently to learn more about her work, vision and history with photography. Click here to see our interview with Sue Bryce Hands-on with the Nikon D5 In amongst the CES launches was the announcement of Nikon's next pro-grade sports camera, the D5. We got a chance to get our hands on the camera so that we could prepare a guide to the camera and its features. We'll be out and shooting with the camera as soon as production samples are available. Click here for our hands on with the Nikon D5 Thanks for reading, and keep your eyes on the site for all the latest news and launches. Richard | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
