Welcome to the 696th Digital Photography Review newsletter. In the (likely) lull before the next round of product releases expected next month, we've been dotting the i's and crossing the t's on our review of Apple's flagship smartphone, the iPhone X, and continuing to dig into the impressive capabilities of the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S. Tamron's latest lightweight telezoom recently arrived in the office too, and we've been shooting with it at every opportunity. Which in Seattle, in January, is easier said than done. Barney Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S First Impressions Review The Panasonic GH5S is best understood as an even more video-centric variant of the GH5. We've been taking a closer look at the camera's dynamic range and how Log shooting helps make the most of it. Click here to read more about the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S Apple iPhone X review Apple's premium iPhone X is the most expensive iPhone to date, so it's only fitting that it comes with optically stabilized dual rear cameras, impressively high-quality video capture and a gorgeous display. So does all that make up for the high price of entry? Let's find out. Check out our full review of the iPhone X Gallery and impressions: The Tamron 100-400mm F4.5-6.3 is light, sharp and stabilized The Tamron 100-400mm F4.5-6.3 Di VC USD lens covers a very useful focal range, and more importantly, it's sharp and effectively stabilized throughout said range. We've been shooting with one for a few days, and we've just published our findings. Read more about the Tamron 100-400mm F4.5-6.3 Di VC PowerShot Shootout: Canon's G1 X III vs G7 X II The G1 X III is Canon's flagship PowerShot, and the only APS-C compact currently on the market with a zoom lens. So in terms of real-world performance, it should easily dominate a 1"-sensor compact like the G7 X II, right? Not so fast. Click here to take a closer look at how the Canon PowerShot G1 X III stacks up against the G7 X II Barney

Welcome to the 695th Digital Photography Review newsletter. The annual flu is going round the DPReview offices this week, so we're a bit depleted, but despite the sniffles, we've been keeping busy. We've been out and about, updating our Google Pixel 2 and iPhone X galleries, taking a closer look at how the iPhone X's portrait mode stacks up, and updating our buying guides to include the new Panasonic Lumix DC-G9 and GH5S. Meanwhile, I picked up a cheap Handevision 35mm prime lens at my local camera store and decided to write about it. Oh! And DJI released a new drone. You can find links to all of that content below. Barney Review: The Handevision Iberit 35mm F2.4 is a budget option for Leica users The Handevision Iberit 35mm F2.4 is a budget manual-focus prime lens for Leica's M-mount, and a slightly-less-budget alternative for Fujifilm X-mount and Sony E-mount photographers. We've been trying it out for a few days. Click here to read more about the Handevision Iberit 35mm F2.4 Google Pixel 2 gallery updated We've spent a ton of time with Google's latest flagship camera. While our full review is in the works, have a look at what the best of computational photography is capable of. Check out our updated Google Pixel 2 gallery DJI unveils the Mavic Air: Mavic Pro specs in a Spark-sized body What happens when you fuse a Mavic Pro with a Spark? You get DJI's new Mavic Air, a lightweight, foldable drone with features that will appeal to enthusiasts and pros on the go. Read more about the new DJI Mavic Air Portrait mode perspective: the iPhone X versus the Canon M100 Computational photography is by all accounts the 'new thing,' but in its current state, how does it compare against your average entry-level camera? Let's find out. Barney
