CP+ 2016: Nikon interview - 'the D500 is the D300S replacement that customers wanted' DPReview was in Yokohma, Japan last month for the annual CP+ photography show. As well as reporting from the show floor, we also made time to sit down with senior executives from several of the major manufacturers, including Nikon. We spoke to Nikon about the company's new DL-series compact cameras, the D500 and D5 and the future of the 1 System. Welcome to the 605th Digital Photography Review newsletter. There's lots going on here at DPReview, as some of this year's major cameras and lenses start trickling into the office for review. This week we polished off our review of the very lovely Leica Q, published a big chunk of content on the Sony a6300, and work began on the Canon EOS 80D. We still have a lot of testing to perform on the 80D, but with this sensor it looks like Canon might have finally addressed our biggest concern with its DSLRs - poor dynamic range... Leica Q In-depth Review The Leica Q’s melding of manual control with electronic assistance and combination of fixed-28mm F1.7 lens and 24MP full-frame sensor make for a responsive package capable of excellent photographs. But despite its undeniable appeal we found a few less likable characteristics over the course of our review. So is it worthy of that bright red dot? Click here to read our full review of the Leica Q Upwardly mobile: Sony a6300 First Impressions Review The Sony a6300 is the company's latest mid-range mirrorless camera. Like the a6000 it still offers 24MP resolution but AF ability, video capability, build quality, viewfinder resolution and price have all been increased. Can it top its well-regarded predecessor with its upgrades? Our testing is well underway – take a look at our preliminary assessments. Lubezki, known for creating immersive cinematic experiences, joined DPReview editors Dale Baskin and Rishi Sanyal to discuss a variety of photographic topics ranging from the artistic to the technical. Showing dynamism: EOS 80D breaks new ground for Canon low ISO DR Our testing shows that Canon's EOS 80D features a sensor with greatly improved Raw dynamic range. The results appear to confirm that the company has moved to a new sensor design with lower read noise.
