Welcome to the 593nd Digital Photography Review newsletter, and the final newsletter of 2015. For those of you that celebrate Christmas, I hope you had a pleasant day. For those of you that don't, but still got the day off work, I hope you spent it relaxing. For those of you that had to work, well, I'm sorry, I know how that goes. And to all of you, thanks for reading, watching, commenting and critiquing our content in 2015. We couldn't do any of this without you, and on behalf of the entire team at DPReview, thank you. The Year in Reviews We struggled to keep pumping out reviews in 2015, as we trained new staff-members and grappled with some of the most complex new cameras we've ever had to test. The good news is that a lot of that work only has to be done once, and we'll kick off 2016 with a much more robust - and we hope useful - suite of tests than we've ever had before. We'll also be making some major changes to the format of reviews (and indeed the whole site) in the New Year, and we'll be asking for your feedback on all of these changes over the next few months. DPReview staff pick their 'Gear of the Year' We have pretty cool jobs. We'll admit it. Plenty of excellent products made their way into our hands in 2015, and we've enjoyed using and writing about all of them. In this series of articles, DPReview staff members choose their personal favorite camera, lens or accessory, and explain why it's their 'gear of the year'. Click here to read our 2015 'Gear of the Year' articles Video Field Tests: The latest gear, tested by pros Our series of video Field Tests has evolved over the course of this year, and it's taken us all over the US in the company of professional photographers and the latest camera equipment. We're pretty pleased with this series of videos, but we're not done experimenting. Look out for more field tests - and more tweaks to the format - in 2016. Thanks for all your feedback on the videos we've posted so far. Watch our series of video Field Tests Roundups and buying guides - updated for 2015! Just because we're almost done with 2015 it doesn't mean you're out of time to buy a gift for a special someone - or yourself. The New Year is a great time for finding deals, and just like every year, we've prepared a large number of product roundups, buying guides and technical primers to help you make an informed buying decision. Click here to see our full selection of buying guides and product roundups Thanks again for reading - and a very happy New Year to one and all! Barney | ||||||||||

Welcome to the 592nd Digital Photography Review newsletter. Christmas is just around the corner, and I can't wait. This year has been incredibly busy for us here at DPReview, and we have lots of exciting new things on the way for you in 2016. Not only new products (watch our homepage for announcements from CES next month and CP+ in February) but site improvements, too. Meanwhile though, here are some recent content highlights! In Fine Detail: Canon EOS 5DS / 5DS R In-Depth Review Canon has added to its EOS 5D range with the launch of two 50MP cameras, the 5DS and the 5DS R. Both cameras are high-resolution full frame models, primarily aimed at stills photographers. The only difference between the models is that the 'S' has an optical low-pass filter, while the 'S R' has a self-canceling filter (the same relationship as Nikon's D800 and D800E models shared). We've put both cameras through exhaustive tests. Click here to read our Canon EOS 5DS/R Review Field Test: Brad Puet and the Fujifilm X-T10 In our most recent Field Test, we took Fujifilm's X-T10 out onto the streets of Seattle with local photographer Brad Puet. After capturing our street portraits we took the images to a local print shop, to get them turned into exhibition-quality prints. Watch how professional street photographer Brad Puet got on with the Fujifilm X-T10 DPReview Gear of the Year, parts 1-5 (and counting) 2015 wasn't the busiest year ever for new gear, but plenty of excellent products made their way into our hands. In this series of articles, DPReview staff members choose their personal favorite camera, lens or accessory, and explain why it's their 'gear of the year'. Parts 1-5 have been published, and there are three more articles on the way before the end of the year. Read DPReview staff members' personal choices for 'gear of the year'. Merry Christmas II you: RX1R II sample gallery updated Recently, the streets of Seattle were filled with revelers dressed as Santa Claus drunk on (at the very least) plenty of holiday cheer. We took the opportunity to give Sony's Cyber-shot RX1R II a merry shooting session, with the aim of stress testing its 399-point PDAF system. Click here to check out our gallery of updated samples Video: a look at the Sony Cyber-shot RX1R II DPReview Editor Barney Britton has put some miles on the Sony Cyber-shot RX1R II, shooting it all over Western Washington and beyond. Watch our video overview for his opinion on Sony's newest full-frame compact. Click here to watch our video overview of the Sony Cyber-shot RX1R II DPReview Recommends: Best compact cameras for travel 2015 Whether you're traveling the world or the next town over, having the right camera at your side makes all the difference. We've picked out our best bets for the photographer who wants to keep things simple by carrying a compact camera rather than one with interchangeable lenses. Click here to read our recommendations for compact travel cameras What's coming up? We've got some more 'Gear of the Year' articles, plenty more videos from our recent PIX show, and of course there's still time to vote in our annual end of year readers polls.
