Welcome to the 808th DPReview Newsletter Hello again from Seattle, where spring is in full bloom, although we're not (quite) able to enjoy it fully. We're looking forward to a bit more normality soon, but we're not out of the woods yet. In the meantime, on behalf of the whole team, I hope that wherever you are, you're holding up well. And as always - thanks for reading! Barney Watch 'My Friends Were Mountaineers', a film about photographer Dee Molenaar Dee Molenaar, a photographer, artist and icon in the Pacific Northwest mountaineering community passed away recently at the age of 101. Filmmaker and DPReview collaborator Eric Becker spent some time with Dee and his children before he died, and created a short film about Dee’s inspirational life. Watch it exclusively here. Welcome to the 807th DPRreview Newsletter This week we've been learning more about Canon's upcoming EOS R5 and oh boy, if you're a video shooter, there's a lot to be excited about. We're looking forward to getting a more detailed picture of the complete feature set in the coming weeks. Away from the EOS R5, Chris and Jordan have been out and about testing Nikon's Raw-enabled Coolpix P950, Richard has been diving (back) into what ISO means, and I re-read one of my favorite books on photography, 'Camera Lucida' by Roland Barthes. Thanks for reading! Barney Canon EOS R5: Go big, or go home Canon may have launched the DSLR video revolution, but it has struggled to lead in recent years. Is the EOS R5 Canon's attempt to flex its muscles and reclaim its glory days of video dominance? But other than taking closeup photos of the moon, what's this camera that looks like a small bazooka good for? Quite a lot, it turns out. Watch Chris and Jordan's review of the Nikon Coolpix P950 Ins and outs of ISO: where ISO gets complex In the second part of our in-depth look at ISO, we're tackling Log, DR modes, and why you don't always gain by adding amplification. Books that made a difference: Camera Lucida (Roland Barthes, 1980) With most activities restricted, this is a good time to think about what photography is, and what it means. One of Senior Editor Barney's favorite photography books has hardly any pictures in it and wasn't even written by a photographer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
