Welcome to the 652nd Digital Photography Review newsletter! In the (rare) breaks between rainstorms here in Seattle, we've been getting out and about with the latest cameras and lenses, including Canon's EOS 77D and M6, meanwhile I spent a pleasant weekend with Leica's rather curious little Summaron 28mm F5.6. Still on the subject of lenses, DPReview staff explained which glass we reach for most often, and why. And Dan made a guest appearance on the TWiT podcast to talk about the Fujifilm GFX 50S. Pentax KP Review Ricoh's Pentax KP is a 24MP mid-range DSLR with five-axis image stabilization. But, rather than a simple update of the existing K-3 II, it's been slimmed-down and gained some of the K-1's style. Does it succeed? Click here to read our full review of the Pentax KP The Leica Summaron 28mm F5.6 is old-fashioned fun The Leica Summaron-M 28mm F5.6 is a curious thing: a 'new' version of a lens originally introduced in the mid 1950s. Is this nouveau classic worth its asking price? Read more about the Leica Summaron 28mm F5.6 Ask the staff: Pick one focal length or lens to rule them all If you could only shoot with one specific lens or focal length for the rest of your life, what would you choose? The staff of DPR sounds off. We haven't wasted any time getting our loaner unit out into the great outdoors. Click here to view our sample gallery from the EOS 77D Canon EOS M6 sample gallery The Canon EOS M6 shares plenty of features with the company's EOS M5 flagship mirrorless camera, including a 24MP APS-C sensor with Dual Pixel AF, a Digic 7 processor and a 3" touchscreen. With a loaner unit in hand we ventured out into the street to start putting it to use – take a look at what it can do. Welcome to the 651st Digital Photography Review newsletter! We've been hard at work over the past few days, finishing reviews, and following-up on our visit last month to Canon's Utsunomiya lens factory, in Japan. Meanwhile, Rishi has been running the numbers on medium-format digital, and he has some questions. Find out what those questions are, and read more recent content via the links below. Birthplace of the L-series: We tour Canon's Utsunomiya factory Recently, we were granted the enormous honor of a guided tour through Canon's EF lens factory, in Utsunomiya, Japan. We were the first journalists ever to be allowed inside. Click here to read about our recent tour of Canon's L-series lens factory Fujifilm X-T20 Review The Fujifilm X-T20 is a midrange SLR-styled mirrorless camera that serves as the younger sibling to the X-T2. While it may be cheaper than the X-T2, the little X-T20 still packs a big punch. Read our review of the Fujifilm X-T20 Opinion: Thinking about buying medium format? Read this first Recent medium format digital announcement has turned a lot of heads, and for good reason. However, some of us are less excited than others. Technical Editor Rishi Sanyal explains why he's not quite convinced. Read more about why Rishi isn't convinced (yet) by medium-format digital Canon's optics masters talk about their favorite lenses We asked three gentlemen who each have multiple decades of experience designing lenses for Canon to share with us their first and favorite lens – find out what they had to say. Subject tracking: Why it matters to us and why it should matter to you Almost every major manufacturer in the business offers some form of autofocus subject tracking; this feature lets you decide what subject the camera should track, and the camera takes care of the rest. Why should you care? Because it will change the way you shoot forever. Read more about why subject tracking matters Barney | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
