Welcome to the 579th Digital Photography Review newsletter. I'm back from a short trip to the UK, and I've returned to a busy office, as we continue our preparations for PIX2015 and finalize reviews of some outstanding cameras ahead of the busy holiday season. We've also been shooting plenty of sample images recently with new gear like DxO's ONE and the Panasonic FZ300. You'll find links to everything below. Video Field Tests: Putting gear in the hands of pros Just a reminder that we're continuing to add to our collection of field test videos, in which we put the hottest cameras and lenses into the hands of professional photographers, to see how they fare in real-world use. Our latest video was made in collaboration with dance and portrait photographer Gabe Bienczycki in the desert outside of LA, and follows his experience shooting with the Nikon D7200 in some very challenging, extremely hot conditions. Explore our collection of video Field Tests Maui Style: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 real-world samples posted Fall weather has arrived here in Seattle, so what better time to head for the Valley Isle of Maui? The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 superzoom, which features an 25-600mm equiv. F2.8 lens and weather-sealed body, somehow found itself in a suitcase. F1.8 lens. With an integrated Lightning connector it's designed to be used while attached to an iPhone or iPad, and is an easily transported little device offering a big boost in image quality over a mobile device's integrated camera. With Capture One Our friends at Capture One are putting on their second annual 'Stand Out!' photographic forum, aimed at professional photographers. Stand Out! is intended as a way for photographers to get face to face with some of the leaders in the photographic industry, share ideas, and get direct access to new gear. It's only a few days before PIX kicks off, but we're still hoping to be able to finish up our reviews of the Sony Cyber-shot RX10 II and Sony a7R II before the show, if possible. Not only are the new models lighter and thinner than the previous generation, but with their introduction the Kindle name is dropped from the Amazon tablet lineup. Read more Exo creates housing to make GoPro operate, look more like a traditional camera Published Thursday, September 17, 2015 5:30:00 AM GMT New Zealand-based EXO Camera Equipment has launched a Kickstarter campaign to get its camera-style casing for GoPro cameras off the ground. The company hopes to produce the EXO GP-1, a metal body into which GoPro cameras can be placed, to take on a more traditional camera form. Read more Nikon D5200 and D7100 firmware updates removes noise during video capture, fixes bugs Published Wednesday, September 16, 2015 9:00:00 PM GMT Nikon has released firmware updates for both the D5200 and D7100 cameras,. Bth new versions of the firmware reduce horizontal line noise in videos recorded at 1280×720/60p and 1280×720/50p. In addition, firmware v. 1.03 fixes select bugs affecting both models.
